SPH honoured with the SSO Benefactor Award and Patron of Heritage Award

15 April 2009, Singapore – Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), Southeast Asia's leading media organisation, is proud to be the sole recipient of the SSO Benefactor Award this year.

The award will be presented to SPH by President S R Nathan at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra's (SSO) 30th Anniversary Benefit Dinner on 18 April 2009 at the Shangri-La Singapore.

The award, inaugurated by the SSO in 2005, honours corporations and individuals who have donated $1 million to the SSO. To date, a total of 10 sponsors have received the award.

SPH, which has been a strong supporter of the national orchestra, has made a cumulative donation exceeding $1 million over the years. It launched the popular SPH Gift of Music series in 2005 with free concerts by the SSO at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

The SSO, under the banner of SPH Gift of Music, has since performed to packed audiences at various parts of Singapore, including school campuses and the HDB heartlands.

Ms Ginney Lim, SPH's General Counsel & Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications, said: "SPH is truly honoured to receive the SSO Benefactor Award. Over the years, we have engaged Singaporeans with the joy of classical music by bringing the SPH Gift of Music concerts to the heartlands, parks, shopping malls and school campuses. The award is especially meaningful as it coincides with our 25th anniversary this year."

Patron of Heritage Award
SPH will also be receiving the Patron of Heritage award on 17 April 2009. This will be the third consecutive year that SPH is honoured by the National Heritage Board, and the second year running that SPH is conferred the Patron of Heritage. It received the Friend of Heritage award in 2007.

The award is given out to organisations and individuals who have contributed to Singapore's heritage cause and played a role in making heritage accessible and inspiring to all.

SPH strongly believes in the conservation of Singapore's heritage. It supported the Singapore HeritageFest 2008, Heritage Gala 2008and various exhibitions held at the Singapore Art Museum. SPH also helped to promote other heritage programmes through its extensive network of out-of-home media managed by its subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd.

SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8, U and TV Mobile, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today. In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations Radio 100.3 FM in Mandarin and Radio 91.3 FM in English.

Outdoor Advertising

In addition, SPH has ventured into out of home (OOH) advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s largest digital OOH advertising network media company and a 35 per cent stake in TOM Outdoor Media Group, a leading outdoor advertising company in China.


SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, is also developing a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
