SPH aligns Strategic Marketing and Customer Service portfolios to enhance synergies and strengthen service delivery

Singapore, 22 April 2009 – In a strategic move to further strengthen service delivery to both advertising agencies and advertisers, Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has announced the appointment of Mr Geoff Tan to oversee its Customer Service Department, which is part of the Marketing Division. He will assume this new role in May, in addition to his current position as head of Strategic Marketing.

Mr Leslie Fong, Senior Executive Vice President of SPH's Marketing Division, says: “It makes a lot of sense to have Geoff Tan lead both Strategic Marketing and Customer Service and drive both towards the common objective of delivering to our customers what they need -- in a well-coordinated, efficient and effective manner. This is all part of the integrated, cross-media solution which SPH promises its partners and customers.”

Geoff, on his new appointment, says: “Now, more and more advertisers are asking for an all-in-one media solution that delivers multiple touch-points aimed at their target market. SPH stands up to this challenge extremely well as both its traditional and new media platforms can be weaved seamlessly together to deliver outstanding consumer engagement results. With fully-aligned goals and objectives, both Customer Service and Strategic Marketing departments can only seek to take customer delight to a whole new level!”

Assisting Geoff in his new role is Mr Tan Ooi Boon, who will relinquish his current role as project and weekend editor of The New Paper. He will take care of the day-to-day operations of Customer Service Department but will also contribute to SPH's strategic marketing effort. Ooi Boon, who has a degree in law and 17 years of journalistic experience, has long had an abiding interest in marketing. He will leverage on his journalistic knowledge and experience, and work at enhancing synergistic cooperation between the marketing and editorial divisions.

SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8, U and TV Mobile, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today. In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations Radio 100.3 FM in Mandarin and Radio 91.3 FM in English.

Outdoor Advertising

In addition, SPH has ventured into out of home (OOH) advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s largest digital OOH advertising network media company and a 35 per cent stake in TOM Outdoor Media Group, a leading outdoor advertising company in China.


SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, is also developing a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
