Singapore, 30 April 2009 - Four deejays from Radio 91.3, the English station of SPH UnionWorks, will perform for President S R Nathan at the Istana Open House tomorrow (1 May 2009).
The group of deejays, comprising Jeremy Ratnam, Suzanne Walker, Gerald Koh and Cheryl Miles, will be participating in a BeatsWork samba performance to entertain visitors at the Istana in the presence of the President.
The four deejays, together with participants from other Singapore organisations, will attend a workshop earlier in the day to pick up the basics of samba beats to prepare for their live performance at the Istana.
In just a few hours, the group will be transformed into seasoned percussionists, all ready to put up an energetic and explosive 15-minute performance of pulsating rhythms.
BeatsWork, which is organised by team-building specialist Asia Ability, enables individuals who have never touched a musical instrument to play in a giant percussion band, with everyone playing their part, in time and on cue. Starting in small groups with a seasoned percussionist, teams are taught basic drumming skills with each group learning a different instrument and rhythm. As confidence and ability grows, the groups will then be brought together in preparation for a stunning performance.
The samba performance by the Radio 91.3 deejays is scheduled from 4.40pm to 4.55pm. The Istana Open House is held from 12noon to 5.30pm.
