Runaway success for first Singapore race of its kind.
Singapore, 26 January 2010 – All 1,500 slots have been snapped up for the Men’s Health Urbanathlon 2010, an inaugural endurance run which will take place January 31, 2010 along the Singapore River and Marina Promenade. The key to this success is the Urbanathlon’s innovative formula – participants will have to traverse eight obstacles over a 12.5km route in their race to glory.

Competitors can expect to take to the streets, scramble through urban obstacles and experience landmarks in a competition that’s both fun and challenging.”
The Men’s Health Urbanathlon was first launched in New York in 2006, and made its way to Chicago and the United Kingdom soon after. The Singapore edition of this unique race is organised by SPH Magazines and HiVelocity, the sports event management company responsible for the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore Triathlon and the Adidas Sundown Marathon. “We’re proud to be able to present it to Singaporeans, who are increasingly seeking new endurance challenges to push their limits,” says Mr Benjamin Wee, General Manager of HiVelocity.
In Singapore, the participants will find their strength, stamina and agility tested to the utmost as they navigate obstacles such as the ‘Leap of Faith’ (jumping off a platform into an 8m long, 0.8m deep pool of water), ‘Wall Street’ (a 1.5m high wall), ‘Down and Dirty’ (a 10m long mud pit) and ‘Corporate Ladder’ (a flight of 99 steps).
Seventy-nine per cent of the 1,500 male competitors have signed up to participate in the Individual category, while 21 per cent will partner a friend to compete in the Team category. Noteworthy is the fact that 18 per cent of the sign-ups are non-Singaporeans – testament to the popularity of this unique property.
As a token of thanks for their support, participants will each receive a complimentary race pack worth over $250. The top three individuals and winning teams will receive prizes worth over $34,000.
The excitement will continue after the race at the Start/Finish Point, where participants can cool down and wash up, view the prize presentation, partake of complimentary drinks and food, and grab limited edition Urbanathlon apparel and hair studio memberships.
Mr Teo Ser Luck, Mayor, North East District, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports & Ministry of Transport, will grace the event as Guest-of-Honour.
