Connect with the young audience you are looking for with What’s The News? (WTN), a dynamic, multi-platform programme designed to introduce young audiences aged 15 to 19 years old to news and current affairs.
The Straits Times’ (ST) interactive interschool current affairs quiz competition is coming back next year after a successful run in 2025, which saw a total of 6,000 students across 50 schools entering the competition.
WTN’s travelling showcase also visited 17 schools and public locations across the island over three months, and saw almost 4,000 interactions with the showcase’s activity sheet.
Maximise your impact with a 360-degree campaign
Be a part of this all-in-one solution that engages students at every stage.
1. Preliminaries: Integrate your brand into the classroom

The competition begins with a standardised online quiz on the Virtual Quiz microsite. As a partner, you will get logo credit and the opportunity to seed your brand message directly into the quiz content that will be developed together with the ST editorial team*.
This makes you a part of the quiz, aligning your brand with education and media literacy.
* The ST team reserves the right to make the final decision on all content based on editorial guidelines.
2. Semi-finals and Finals: Command the stage at live events

WTN moves from the classroom to the big stage with a high-energy telematch semi-final and a game show final. Here, your representative will have the opportunity to sit as a judge, connecting your brand with higher-order thinking and celebrating the nation's brightest young minds.

Likewise, you will be able to seed questions relevant to your objectives and message.
3. Travelling showcase: Dominate the campus and high-traffic locations islandwide

Our Travelling Showcase is a powerful physical activation that further extends the quiz’s messaging with interactive elements and freebies as it visits schools. As a partner, you get a dedicated panel to tell your story with credibility in an interactive format that youth respond to. This is amplified by our Assembly Programme, which takes an engaging, host-led show directly to students.
4. Harness the power of trusted storytelling
Backed by the full force of SPH Media and the trusted Straits Times brand, WTN includes extensive media entitlements, from advertorials and social media amplification to radio spots and print coverage, ensuring your message reaches students, parents, educators, and the public, all while building brand trust.
