SPH Media titles are continuing their winning streak with wins at two prestigious international awards in May. These include five wins for The Straits Times, Tamil Murasu, Berita Harian, and thrive. by The Business Times at the annual International News Media Association (INMA) Global Media Awards, as well as five nods for Lianhe Zaobao videos at The Telly Awards

This comes on the back of taking the biggest haul at WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media Awards Asia in April. 

Five wins at INMA Global Media Awards

The Straits Times scored a first-place win for its interactive audio feature, Sounds of Singapore in the Best New Audio/Voice Product or Feature (National Brands) category, which edged out Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet in second and News Corp Australia in third. Published ahead of National Day 2024, the feature captured nine sounds that resonate with the Singaporean experience.

The title’s nine-part infographic chronicling Taylor Swift’s musical career, published over nine days ahead of the record-breaking Singapore leg of Swift’s Eras tour, took second place in the Best Use of Print (National Brands) category. The win comes shortly after the infographic took home the gold at the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards Asia 2025 in April this year. 

Also taking home second place was Tamil Murasu’s Daily News mobile app in the Best New Digital Product (National Brands) category. Launched in October 2024, the app offers readers greater convenience and access to information, delivering all things Tamil-related to the community. It is available for download on the App Store and Google Play

Berita Harian won third place in the Best Innovation in Newsroom Transformation (National Brands) category for its digital transformation, which focuses on a holistic newsroom approach as it integrates content development with audience engagement efforts. These include the launch of BH Lab, which focuses on fast and local coverage, as well as its OMG (Orang Muda Gitew) digital platform for Malay youth. 

The Business Times’ young audience initiative, thrive received an honourable mention in the Best Initiative to Bolster Next-Generation Readership (National Brands) category.  thrive, which also took home second place for Best Newsletter at the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards Asia 2025, provides relevant, actionable insights for Gen Zs and millennials navigating their adulting journey. 

Lianhe Zaobao original videos recognised at The Telly Awards

Lianhe Zaobao's high-quality original videos have once again received international recognition, winning one gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the 46th The Telly Awards in the United States.

Its video series, Think Twice (双声道), won gold in the Series - Video Journalism category. It focuses on social issues that concern the public, allowing viewers to get a better understanding of opinions across society.   

An episode from Zaobao’s series, The World Explained —  Kim Jong Un’s Daughter set to be North Korea’s Next Leader? (朝鲜“新星女将军” 金正恩爱女的使命 | 世界大解说) — took home the silver in the General - Political & Commentary category. Likewise, its feature video, Do Malaysians working in Singapore consider it home? (跳板还是归宿,来新加坡打工的马国人怎么想?), also won silver in the General - Video Journalism category. 

Its two bronze wins are in the categories General - DEI: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for Finding Identity as Mixed Race Children in Singapore (“你是什么人?”跨国混血儿的挣扎与成长) and General -Investigative & Open Source Reporting for Why It's Hard to Stop Teens Vaping in Singapore (青少年吸电子烟 大人怎么管?)
