The Straits Times (ST) was recognised with four accolades at the 2025 Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Awards, celebrating its excellence in infographics, opinion writing, and video journalism. The coveted awards, announced on June 26, honour the best in Asia-Pacific media.

ST secured two top prizes, the Award for Excellence, for its work in infographics and opinion writing. The first was for the "Taylor Swift infographics that make up a giant poster," lauded by judges as a "brave" and "data-driven" project that resonated deeply with its audience. This was the work of Yamini Chinnuswamy, Billy Ker, and Cel Gulapa.
The second Award for Excellence went to Shannon Teoh for his opinion piece, "No country for young men: Where is Malaysia's next generation of leaders?" The jury praised it as an "expansive prose that delves into Malaysia's national discourse."
The publication also received two Honorable Mentions. The video report, "How accessible is Singapore? We travel with a wheelchair user to find out," was commended as an "essential story for building more inclusive societies." The team included Chee Wei Xian, Hannah Ong, Joseph Ricafort, Lee Pei Jie, and Shannon Teoh.
A second Honorable Mention in infographics was awarded for "How food diary videos on social media can impact your body image," praised as a "truly brilliant example of visual journalism." This was awarded to Alyssa Mungal, Charlene Chua, Chee Wei Xian, Elizabeth Law, and Stephanie Adeline.

The annual SOPA Awards are a benchmark for journalistic excellence in the region. These latest wins reaffirm The Straits Times' position as a leading source of high-quality, impactful journalism.
