SMRT’s Thomson East-Coast Line managing director and long-time rail professional Mr Shahrin Abdol Salam received the prestigious Berita Harian Achiever of the Year (Anugerah Jauhari Berita Harian) award at a ceremony held at Four Seasons Hotel on 3 November. Singer-songwriter Shazza (Shareefa Aminah Abdul Sharif) is the Berita Harian Young Achiever of the Year (Anugerah Jauhari Harapan Berita Harian).
Organised by SPH Media’s flagship Malay language publication Berita Harian, Achiever of the Year was presented this year by FairPrice Group.

Close to 200 guests from the Malay-Muslim community lauded the honourees together with the event’s Guest-of-Honour, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Mr Teo Chee Hean.
Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Minister, Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for Education and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs; and Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence & Ministry of Manpower were also present at the 25th edition of the event, which honours the contributions of outstanding individuals in the Malay/Muslim community.
At his opening address, Berita Harian editor Mr Mohd Nazry Mokhtar shared some early positive outcomes of Berita Harian’s transformation journey. Its social media engagement has increased tremendously with likes, shares, and comments across its social media platforms quadrupling since June. This has directly boosted BH’s pageviews, which have consistently surpassed the 1 million mark each month despite the paywall.
He added: “The recipients of the Achiever of the Year award are role models who can inspire our youth and the Malay/Muslim community. BH plans to organise regular sharing sessions by the award recipients to share career and life experiences with our youth. We hope that this will be an opportunity for our award recipients to contribute to the community and be a guide and source of inspiration for our young people.”
