Close to 2,000 participants attended the main session of The Straits Times (ST) inaugural Smart Parenting webinar, which focused on helping parents to better understand how the new PSLE scoring system could impact secondary school postings this year.
Moderated by ST senior education correspondent Sandra Davie, the event saw an overwhelming response with slots snagged up within hours of registration. This highlights the keen interest in the publication’s Smart Parenting section, which was launched last year.
Organised by ST and conducted at the in-house studio, the webinar was broadcast live on Zoom, with the video recording accessible on the ST website (www.straitstimes.com).
Omnichannel pre-event publicity leveraged ST’s platforms, and via a newsletter sent to its customised database.
The webinar was kickstarted by the deputy director-general of education (curriculum) Mr Sng Chern Wei, who addressed the concerns of how the marking process is moderated.
Five breakout sessions were held afterward with principals from 10 schools including Temasek Junior College, CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) and Anderson Secondary. An average of 375 parents joined each session, together with 2 principals who gave their take on the new scoring system as well as advice on how to pick the right schools. The parents were also able to actively engage the principals, who fielded their questions.
