SPH Media’s Malay-language daily Berita Harian (BH) and BH young audience brand, OMG! (Orang Muda Gitew) have launched its BH x OMG Jauhari Series: Inspiring The Young series, supported by government feedback unit REACH.
Mdm Halimah Yacob, Chancellor of Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and former President of Singapore, was the key speaker for the inaugural edition. Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Communications and Information, and Deputy Chairperson of the REACH Advisory Panel, was also present as a special guest.

The monthly dialogue session will feature past recipients of the Berita Harian Achiever of the Year award such as Mdm Halimah sharing inspirational stories and their life experiences based on the theme. It also presents a channel for youths to seek advice and share their aspirations, allowing a conversation to keep them motivated and on track.
In the session held on 31 May at Working Title LASALLE, Mdm Halimah shared the values that guided her as a leader, the challenges she faced in her personal and professional life, and how she overcame them in line with the theme, "Unleashing potential: Journey to the highest office in the land”.

The event was attended by an 80-strong crowd comprising tertiary students and young PMETs, who were highly engaged in the topic and actively participated in the Q&A session.
Engaging the youth

Mdm Rahayu Mahzam said: “The government's feedback unit, REACH, is open to creating new and different collaborations as we accept that Singaporeans interact with the government through very different platforms and ways. Conversations like those held during the Jauhari Series opened up space for more important issues to be discussed. There were some youths who attended such group discussions by REACH for the first time and this is because they were attracted by the Jauhari Series (organised by Berita Harian and OMGxBH). This allows us to use this platform to explore certain issues with them.”

Apart from the on-ground event, the key messages of the session were amplified through post-event coverage in BH’s print and digital editions.
A post-event highlight video was also posted on OMG!’s Instagram and TikTok channels, with the full video hosted on OMG!’s YouTube channel.

Mr Nazry Mokhtar, Editor, Berita Harian said: “We hope that through these sessions, young people will have the opportunity to interact and gain valuable knowledge from our Jauhari Award winners.”
