From Consumer Confidence to Real Sales: SPH Media Travel Awards and Travel Fair Anchors Trust into Singapore's Travel Market
Singapore's travel market is buoyant, but it has a growing trust problem.
A wave of travel agencies failing to meet regulatory requirements, combined with the rise of heavily discounted operators that overpromise and underdeliver, has left many travellers out of pocket and deeply wary. The promotions are plentiful, but the genuine assurance that turns a browsing traveller into a confident buyer has become increasingly hard to find.
For travel agencies with strong track records and real expertise, this erosion of industry-wide trust created a different kind of challenge. In a market where credibility is doubted across the board, even well-run agencies were being tarred by the same brush, losing potential customers to hesitation before a conversation could even begin.
The Opportunity
SPH Media identified a clear gap in the market, where there was no single space in Singapore where travellers could access vetted agencies, receive credible expert advice, and leave with a booking they felt genuinely good about.
And there was no recognised mechanism for distinguishing the agencies that had earned consumer confidence through years of delivering, from those that had not.
As Singapore's most trusted media network, we were uniquely placed to build both, and to connect them into a seamless consumer experience that moved audiences from discovery to booking with real peace of mind.
The Approach
The SPH Media Travel Awards and Travel Fair was the culmination of that insight, designed as a three-stage campaign with trust as the thread running through each phase.

The Readers' Choice: Letting Singaporeans Decide
The campaign began not with a judging panel or an industry committee, but with the people who matter most: real travellers sharing real experiences.
Readers across The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao were invited to nominate and vote for the agencies they trusted most, based on their own firsthand encounters. More than 2,900 votes came in and six agencies were selected: Chan Brothers Travel, CTC Travel, ASA Holidays, Super Travels, Hong Thai Travel, and Nam Ho Travel. This endorsement gave the recognition a credibility that no industry award could replicate.
The Awards Ceremony: Making Credibility Official
Held on 6 April at the SPH Media Auditorium, the Awards Ceremony brought the Readers' Choice recognition to life in front of an audience of industry leaders, formally establishing the winning agencies as the standard-bearers of travel excellence in Singapore.
Each agency also received a full amplification package to sustain visibility and build anticipation in the weeks leading up to the fair, including:
- Print ads in The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, and Shin Min Daily News
- Digital banners, OOH screens, and boosted Facebook posts
- Live radio reads across 96.3 Hao FM, Kiss92 FM, ONE FM 91.3, and UFM 100.3
- Social distribution through Telegram, WhatsApp, and Instagram Stories across ST and ZB channels
The Travel Fair: Where Trust Became Transactions
By the time the fair opened its doors, every agency on the floor had been chosen by readers. This meant that visitors arrived already primed with a level of confidence that most travel events simply cannot manufacture. Held over two days on 2 and 3 May, the Travel Fair brought everything together in a single, high-energy consumer moment.
Expert travel talks gave audiences the knowledge to plan with clarity, while exclusive agency deals gave them the incentive to commit. Lastly, interactive games like Spin and Win increased engagement and kept the energy high throughout both days.
The Impact
The SPH Media Travel Awards and Travel Fair demonstrate a principle that holds well beyond the travel category: trust, when built into the structure of a campaign rather than assumed at the point of sale, shapes how audiences engage and drives stronger commercial outcomes.
The campaign delivered strong results across all three phases:
- 2,900+ public votes cast across The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao
- 2,000 travel consumers attended across two days
- $1.5 million in direct sales generated at the fair
For brands and advertisers looking to move beyond awareness and into genuine consideration, showing up in a trusted environment is one thing, but being part of a platform that actively builds trust on your behalf, before your audience even discovers you, is something far more valuable.
Looking Ahead
The inaugural SPH Media Travel Awards and Travel Fair has set a new benchmark for how media can bridge the gap between consumer confidence and commercial action, and the model it represents extends well beyond the travel category.
As consumer trust continues to be harder to earn and easier to lose, the partners that invest in credibility-led platforms will be the ones best positioned to convert attention into action. SPH Media is committed to building more of these platforms across categories, serving as the top-of-mind partner for creating spaces where audiences can engage with brands they already believe in, and where that belief translates directly into outcomes that matter.
